Gordon Dalshaug Equine Services and www.HorseOwnerToday.com are excited to offer this outstanding educational opportunity with Dutch Olympian, Ellen Bontje. Ellen will bring competitive skills and classical training techniques together in this 3 day clinic at Willow Ridge Stable, Saskatoon, SK.

Browse through our rider horse bio's, enjoy!

Stephanie Eskes is a 15 year old equestrian from Prince Albert, SK Her and her horse, Fake ID will be riding and learning at the Ellen Bonje workshop in January 2013 at Willow Ridge Stables in Saskatoon. http://www.horseownertoday.com/ellenbontjeworkshop.aspx

Stephanie started riding at the age of 5 years old and has had a passion for riding ever since her kindergarten years.  She learned the basics from her mother, Virginia Eskes and has been training with Vanessa Either of Jumping Hills Farm in Prince Albert since 2010.   It is interesting to note that Vanessa Either was also student of Virginia Eskes as a young girl.
This will be Stephanie and Ali’s first dressage clinic and their major sponsor will be Back to Your Roots Soil Inc. of Shellbrook, SK.  BTYR is a Saskatchewan based company promoting soil health to grow nutrient dense feed and forage.   http://www.back-to-your-roots.com/

Lester's Con and myself, Allison Currie have been together for 11yrs. He retired gracefully from the track and became my lesson horse and with his patient, but wiley ways won my heart. Most of our time is spent riding out on the prairie, enjoying the wonders and the occasional surprise, that only this land can offer. Whether we come across a momma skunk and her babies or as we did last week, a momma moose and her babies, Lester takes it all in stride and has taught me the importance of that as well. Initially I had aspirations of showing and competing, but have realized that those pressures were harmful to our relationship. I am content to have a lovely, well-mannered horse whose ribbons are won every ride. Lester has given so many different people joy and satisfaction, especially children, that his nickname is "Lester the Molester"!
I am very grateful for the opportunity to ride in this wonderful event and experience a level of expertise that all the other riders and our instructor will impart. What Lester and I come away with will be invaluable; he inspires me to be a better rider.

Teresa Binetruy started riding as a child and has been riding, taking instruction and showing in all of the three equestrian disciplines ever since.

Teresa’s riding experience began in the sport of Three Day Eventing, giving opportunity to compete at major competitions across Western Canada over the years.  Arguably, the highlight of her three-day experiences was riding Ludi Mae.  Ludi Mae was a thoroughbred mare that the Binetruy family purchased locally that went on to be a member of Team Canada at the 1990 World Equestrian Games in Sweden.  When Ludi Mae was retired from international competition in 1992, she became Teresa’s riding horse; allowing Teresa to take advantage of the vast ‘world of experience’ this horse had to offer, literally.

Being a three day event rider puts a person in the unique position of having to develop skills in all three arenas.  To that end, Teresa and her horses have always attended regular dressage lessons, clinics and shows; and continued to develop skills with regular hunter/jumper lessons, clinics and shows.  It has been a few years since Teresa has competed at a three day event, but she is commonly showing in the dressage ring and the hunter/jumper ring in Saskatchewan and Alberta.

Most recently, Teresa has taken the opportunity to concentrate on her dressage work.  Among many great clinicians, Teresa has been traveling regularly to Calgary to take lessons from Crystal Kroetch – a member of Canada’s 2011 Silver Medal Team at the Pan American Games.  In 2012, Teresa showed third level and is looking forward to further developing correct fundamentals to allow her to confirm her third level work and move to 4th level and beyond.

Outside of the riding arena, Teresa has a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture and is the manager of the Beef Cattle Research & Teaching Unit at the University of Saskatchewan.  Teresa lives west of Saskatoon on a farm where she previously raised beef cattle and currently runs a warmblood breeding operation. There is an exciting line up of young horses coming up through the ranks.  She also plays competitive women’s hockey, traveling around Canada and the United States to hockey tournaments during the winter season.

Frolic is a 2004 Canadian Warmblood gelding sired by Frobisher (Florestan I x Diamantino) out of Brisa (Bajazzo x Arkansas).  Frolic was born on Teresa’s farm and has been under her care and guidance ever since.  He has shown in the hunter ring to 3’3” and in the jumper ring to 3’6”.  While Frolic still competes in all disciplines the focus has turned to more serious dressage work with his first season at 3rd level in 2012.  Frolic is a great big, strong horse with rhythmical lofty gates, a sweet temperament and a great attitude.  He is capable, in a friendly way, of using his power against his rider to make work a little easier for himself.  However, all in all he is a pleasure to ride.

Alexandria Voll's mount is a lovely 3 year old revised PRE mare with a world class heritage, GRACIL AT.  Her excellent conformation and temperament are reflected by her outstanding lineage.  Out of renowned sire INVASOR  and dam CARECA, grandsire EVENTO was s silver medal winner Olympic team Athens 2004 and brother to DISTI NGUIDO X Spanish team Bronze 2002 World Equestrian Games Jerez Spain.  Dam CARECA is out of SONODOR XIII ANCCE Book of Merits - winner of 2001 Dominican Dressage Cup.  Dam DANZERINA - Diosdado bred top foundation mare listed as "outstanding" in Spanish Book Of Merits.  We have high hopes for Gracil as a performance horse and foundation broodmare along with our other imported Diosdada Galan mares.

Alexandria fell in love with Gracil this summer and hopes to develop a long term partnership showing and training her as time allows.  Alexandria started lessons as a four year old with Gordon Dalshaug and a Morgan mount, surviving and thriving, showing and spending summers in Pony Club camps on a difficult Shetland "Cookie".  She began dressage training in earnest at the age of ten, on her Arab mare Lacey.   Alexandria's riding was curtailed somewhat when her studies took precedence.  She convocated in Medicine this year and she is now doing her first year training as a neurology resident in Saskatoon.

Melissa Saunders partner is Halcyonia Free Spirit is a 15 year old, 13.1 hh grey gelding. He is a Section C, registered Welsh Cob. Spirit was started as a four year old to both ride and drive. As a four year old he won a combined driving competition with his mate, Echo. I began using Spirit in our Whip Cracking performances in 2005. He has travelled across Western Canada – from Swan River, MB to Invermere, BC and many points in-between. For the performances Spirit learned how to stand on a pedestal and bow to the crowd. I started competing in the Saskatchewan Reined Cow Horse Association late 2006. Spirit and I competed at the last three shows and we took home the year end high point championship (youth 10-13). We continued showing the next year and achieved another year end high point championship (youth 10-13). After not competing for 3 years, I entered the Saskatoon SRCHA competition in August 2010 and we ended that weekend winning the Open Freestyle Reining, and the weekend high point championship (youth 14-18). Our Freestyle reining pattern was bridle-less and bareback. Spirit is an incredible pony having five championships under his belt with limited showing and having performed across Western Canada.

I was raised in Borden SK on a grain farm where we also raise Welsh Ponies and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. I started riding at a very young age, having always been exposed to horses. I have been involved in the local 4H club for 8 years. I am part of Will Gough's Australian Whip Show and use my pony in the performances. I competed in reining, cutting, and working cow horse for 2 years and won 4 championships. Horses play a huge role in my life.

Lauren Bamfords partner is Paso Doble 40.  Paso is a 2004 Oldenburg gelding by Pelegrinius out of an Alabaster mare.  He was purchased as a 2 yo stallion prospect in Germany. He has been competing for the last three years in dressage.  He and Lauren competed in Germany in 2010 and 2011 in competitions in A, L and M dressage.  He was successful in those competitions with placings at every competition. He came to Canada in October of 2011.  He participated in the Gina Smith clinic at the Saskatchewan Equine Expo and did a good job staying focused in front of some large crowds. In the summer of 2012, he and Lauren competed at 2nd Level in their first Canadian competition earning Champion in the Open division.  He debuted at 4th Level one month later and successfully completed his tests at that competition earning placings in every class. He is a very talented but quirky horse and we have high hopes of qualifying him to the 2015 Pan Am games in Toronto.

Dana Nordin and her partner Troy own and operate Heartwood Stables near Clavet, Sask. Dana has been fully obsessed with horses since she began campaigning for her first pony at the age of four. She was raised in rural SK and participated in many equine activities and disciplines through the years. She has focused on training and raising Baroque horses, and teaching Rider Yoga. She has schooled locally and overseas, even travelling to Spain and France to study with Salvador Fabregas and Dona Holleman. Dana would like to develop her riding for the sheer joy of it, but also for the benefit of her horses and client horses, and perhaps to enjoy an eventual return to the show ring. For this workshop, she has chosen a lovely PRE mare with whom she has a deep bond. Rain is a clever and spirited mare, with expressive, floaty and comfortable movement. She is a Lepanto daughter, bred at Spirithorse farms. After many years as a broodmare, Rain is experiencing a somewhat reluctant return to her work under saddle. Dana and Rain get along just like two best friends who have been through good times and bad. Dana would like to express her endless gratitude for all her 'Horsie Godmothers' who have helped along the way; and for her real father who instilled a love and respect for horses, taught many skills, and has trailered her around all over the place.

I, Bonnie Newton started riding at 5 years old on a pony. 4-H was a constant in my horse world, Dr. J. Taylor was a huge influence as a leader.  Our 4-H club provided the opportunity to work with Winston Hansma, Vern Sapergia, Gordon Dalshaug, Gail Ross, Chris Larsen, Sharon Collins and many other clinicians. As an adult I continued to ride, learn and enjoy.  I currently hold a Coach Level 1 English status, Coach 2 is underway.  My riding took an abrupt halt when our son got mobile, so after 4 years of not riding - I am starting to ride and it feels very good.

I am honored to ride with Ellen Bontje.  My objective going into this clinic is to start riding correctly.

My horse, Tic Tac Scotty is a QH gelding, grandson of Solonas Peppy San that we bred, raised and started under saddle. Scotty is a very honest, willing and talented gelding who will be my son's horse shortly. Enjoy the pic of Scotty in the arena, looking at himself.

In loving memory of Bill (aka Kasanova)
